"Manhattan. Sometimes from beyond the skyscrapers, across thousands of high walls, the fearful cry of a too-well-known voice finds you in your insomnia in the middle of the night, and you remember that this desert of iron and cement is an island of un-reality." Albert Camus

For decades Palm Springs has been a playground for both the rich and famous and the weekend warriors. During the summer it reaches over 110 degrees, but that doesn't stop people from flocking to its pools and activities. I prefer visiting in the winter as it is less busy and it allows me to spend more time hiking and exploring some of the rich outdoor opportunities available at only a stones through from the city.

“You know, I sometimes think, how is anyone ever gonna come up with a book, or a painting, or a symphony, or a sculpture that can compete with a great city. You can’t. Because you look around and every street, every boulevard, is its own special art form and when you think that in the cold, violent, meaningless universe that Paris exists, these lights. I mean come on, there’s nothing happening on Jupiter or Neptune, but from way out in space you can see these lights, the cafés, people drinking and singing. For all we know, Paris is the hottest spot in the universe.” – Owen Wilson
